So it seems that Christianity is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeven closer to jewish tradition than the present day jewish establishment claims.

The anti-missionaries claim that in judaism no man can die for another man's sins buuuuuuuuuuuuut ......

check out what this guy on Failed Messiah says:

Christianity does indeed say that Jesus was righteous.

Except for the holocaust and the israeli-arab stuff, the jewish establishment spews alot of bull shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

Hey Rosh Yeshiva!

In 2 weeks during Bein Hazmanim we will be going up to that famous town Nazareth birthplace of your future Lord and Savior (the hotel can't seem to get any real paying guests so they turn it Mehadrin and bring in all the Chareidi Frummies - separate swimming and all...lol)
Shall I pass along any messages to a grotto or something for you? (Do you guys have anything like that?)
I'll try to send you pictures.

Actually the idea that a saintly person dies to atone for the sins of his generation was originally a Jewish one that the chrisians stole.

But Garnel, even if it was originally a Jewish idea which the Christians appropriated ("stole" seems a little harsh-- was it copyrighted?), the fact is that anti-missionary types do spend a great deal of time emphasizing that Judaism does not permit this kind of "substitute sacrifice." The Torah does say that "the father shall not be put to death for the sins of the son," etc.

David, you're right because the concepts are different at the core.
The tzadik dying for the sin of the generation is to prevent the generation from being punished, not as an unconditional atonement.

The verbatim from the gemarah seems to be it's as an atonement.
