Happy 4th

Here we are again, at the yearly celebration of American independence. Yet, things aren't so celebratory. The unemployment rate is abysmal. The border situation is abysmal. The government has taken over banks and car companies; to an unprecedented extent in our history.

Democrats continue to spend at a time when we need cuts. After all the blathering Obama does about a deficit commission, the Democrat controlled House of Representatives decided that they're going to spend over a trillion dollars for fiscal year 2011.

Democrats also talk about taxing. Obama dreams of a VAT tax. On top of that, and the new taxes of Obamacare; Massachusetts Representative Bill Delahunt presented a plan of taxing the INTERNET. Are they mad? Now is not the time for any new taxes, and now is not the time for any new spending. Democrats continue to do the opposite.

We lost sight. We forgot who we are. We looked to Obama to create the jobs when in fact it is the private sector who creates the jobs. Instead of taking money from the private sector and redistributing it, and f###ing it all up; Obama should have just let the private sector keep the money; it is the natural instinct for companies to grow and hire people.

Tax and spend has thus been proven to be a disaster. Obama raised taxes in Obamacare. Obama spent billions in stimulus in bailouts. All of Obama's policies have FAILED t0 bring the American economy back to normal. The U.N. is even talking about dumping the U.S. dollar as the reserve currency because of all the spending and inflating that the Democrats are doing.

Government bailouts and stimulus is not the answer. The answer is that the government needs to get out of the way of the private sector so that the private sector can grow and hire. Individual companies and people can spend their money better than the Democrats can.

As Calvin Coolidge said, "the business of America is business." Let us not lose sight of who we are. In our system, companies provide jobs; government destroys jobs when it taxes profits and inflates the dollar especially in this period of near stagflation.

Now, now, SJ - your new religion requires you to sell all your excess possessions to support the poor, orphaned, widowed, sick, etc. You did read Acts, didn't you? So why should you have a problem with funding unemployment, healthcare, etc.? You're COMMANDED to fund those things.

Also, the teachers in the NT said to "turn the other cheek," and that "those who live by the sword die by it." So what you should be soapboxing to de-fund is not humanitarian programs but military spending.

You've bought the Republican party (or perhaps the Teapartier) Kool-Aid big time. They are so far from real Biblical Values it's a joke - the business of America was supposed to be the "city on the hill," with "manifest destiny" that believed in blue laws and all that right from the start - yet today's Republicans and Teapartiers worship business, consumerism, materialism and yes, money - which is taught against in the NT.

"You cannot serve two masters, Mammon and God..."

"In the last days hard times shall come, for men shall be lovers of self (me-first), lovers of money, boasters (in military might), proud (of exploiting people), blasphemers (against God's real commandments), disobedient to parents (including wanting to scrap social security), thankless (for the strong economy that unions and protectionism provided in the 40s-60s), wrong-doers (issuing mortgages and credit to people they knew couldn't pay), unloving (of anyone, but especially the poor, uninsured, and unemployed), unforgiving (of people's mistakes that led to them being roped in by greedy crooks), slanderers (against those who preach against rampant consumerism and materialsim), without self-control (spending what the don't have, wanting physical pleasure at all costs), fierce (against those who teach moderation), haters of good (especially toward the poor, elderly, or sick), betrayers (of the promises made to the elderly, poor and sick), reckless (in their disregard for the social consequences of their actions), puffed up (with greed and arrogance), lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of reverence (they go to church) but denying its power (because actually obeying God would crimp their style). Turn away from these!"

If you're a Christian then you should be reminding people of their obligation to fund programs for the poor, uninsured and unemployed - because that's what your Messiah teaches. He praised a woman who gave her last two pennies - and lambasted the wealthy who ignored their obligations to the needy.

Are you his disciple or not?

The bible doesn't command to be poor, the bible commands to not be without spirituality while you make money.

Matthew 6:31-33 "Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Clearly, reading the leftist political agenda into the Bible is a fallacy.

Charity is supposed to be private; not forced by the government. The USA is indeed the most charitable nation in the world.

The Republican view is that not everything has to be "let's run to the government for help!!!!!!!!"

The government has it so that medicare and medicaid is bankrupt, social security is bankrupt, states are bankrupt, cities are bankrupt, etc.

Clearly, there is a better way than running to the govenrnment for help.

Ahavah, before we continue this discussion, do you even understand the conservative proposals for health reform? I want to see that you understand conservative ideas on the subject before we continue this debate / discussion / whatever. And don't just say "yes" and go off on different stuff. That won't convince me.

So Ahavah, what are the conservative proposals for health reform?

Ahavah said...

There are no conservative proposals for health reform - there are only conservative proposals for INSURANCE reform which is hardly the same thing. The for-profit model of healthcare is NOT being reformed by any proposal of the Republicans. Nor is any Republican calling for the declaration of a basic human right to healthcare, which every other civilized nation has. When they do those two things, THEN they will be reforming "healthcare," until then, they are just attempting to make profiteering off the sick more palatable.

By the way, clearly, reading a rightist agenda into the NT is a fallacy. Which part of "they had all things in common" did you not understand?

You don't want to read it correctly because you have a vested philosophical interest in not reading it correctly. It is extremely clear from a plain reading of the text that they sold or donated all their excess possessions and distributed the money and goods so that everyone in the congregation had as nearly as possibly an equality of standard of living. Do you think their doctors charged those who couldn't afford to pay who were brothers in their congregation? Of course not. Did they extract loan payments from those not able to pay? No, they didn't. You haven't read the early church fathers, obviously, but there is a plethora of contemporary sources for the doctrines of the original gentile congregations (the Jewish ones were, of course, all Torah observant until they were hounded to near extinction by the early catholic church).

How do you think the Bishops of the early churches became so wealthy? Managing the common fund, that's how. This is your religion now - and it very much requires you to give up what you don't Need to those that have less than you. That is the practice of the authentic early congregations and a clear example in the book of Acts. Denying just shows you have ulterior motives.

By health reform we all mean health insurance reform. Now, what are the conservative proposals for health INSURANCE reform?

Comeon Ahavah, at least understand the conservative position before you try to argue against it.

Ahavah has an excellent point (boy, am I liking you!). Christians (and I should know as I was raised as one for 19 years) are supposed to help the poor and the weak. The disciples gave away their possessions, the preachers/ministers/reverends take a vow of poverty, even today. Christianity is based on the idea of discarding all earthly possessions and living off of what God provides.

And turning the other cheek, loving thy neighbour, doing unto others... you get the point. And all points that most Christians have forgotten.

Jesus was a cool dude, it's the people who follow him that I worry about.

But yep, Happy 4th. Hope you had a good one.

2 Corinthians 9:7 "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."

Reading forced charity into the Bible is a fallacy. Reading the leftist agenda into the Bible is a fallacy.

Reading rightest agenda into the Bible is a fallacy...

And the thing every Christian is supposed to do is live/be Christ like. There's no way around it.

SJ said...

The right is not using the Bible for its argument. Being Christ-like the way the left suggests leads to bankrupt social programs. What are you going to do, tax more to retard economic growth?

As per the Bible, charity isn't supposed to be forced.

Next, the Bible doesn't command the laity to give up all posessions, just a reasonable amount determined on a personal basis (1 Corithians 16:2).

Another nail in the head of the liberal argument, is that deficit spending is unbiblical as per Romans 13:8.

So, the Bible is against forced charity, and the Bible is against deficit spending. Looks pretty right wing if you ask me. XD

"The right is not using the Bible for its argument."

Are you effing kidding me?! This is all the right-wingers do: use the Bible to "win" their argument because they cannot speak for themselves.

I don't give a crap what it says in the Bible about any social, political, moral issue. I care what people are saying about them and what they are doing about them NOW.

I have never heard a mainstream right winger in the media use the Bible to talk about the economy.
