The Truth About Keeping Kosher

The rules of Kosher from the Torah but not the rabbinical add ons were originally given by God himself, but any health benefits (and there were health benefits) that could be attained from them have been negated by modern science (i.e. eat healthy and cook food properly especially pork).

Keeping kosher only makes sense
  1. if you enjoy giving your money to rabbis and mashgikhim with no real job skills.
  2. you are a rich modern orthodox
  3. you an ultraorthodox on government assistance

In either case 1, 2, or 3, you have better things to be bothered with than the cost of food.

Now, assuming you are neither 1, 2, or 3, keeping kosher makes no economic sense. It's too damn expensive for the average Joe who works hard but isn't rich or isn't a welfare taking ultraorthodox.

Especially when you consider the fact that kosher inspection orgs cut corners with nonkosher ingredients (OU scandal as documented by Failed Messiah).

And kosher inspection orgs unethically weild their power to revoke certification from restaurants over not following orthodox mores that have nothing to do with food.

Food prices are high enough. Kasharut "workers" should get real jobs.

1) Keeping kosher has nothing to do with health. Nowhere in the Torah or Talmud does it claim that kosher food is healthier than non-kosher food. So modern refrigeration is irrelevant to the argument
2) Keeping kosher is only more expensive if you want to eat lots of meat and processed foods. Otherwise most staples like flour, fruits, vegetable and potatoes are automatically kosher. A high fibre, low fat kosher diet is the same price as a non-kosher one.

Garnel, would you go so far as to say that the Torah prohibiting fat and blood consumption has nothing to do with health?

Checking for defects inside animal organs has nothing to do with health?

Secondly Garnel, you haven't been reading Failed Messiah lately, have you.

Yes, the Torah prohibiting fat and blood consumptions has nothing to do with health. Keep in mind, for example, that the health risks of fat weren't even known until a few decades ago.

Indeed. Even Hashem himself was oblivious to it until a few decades ago. When he wrote the Torah he just wanted to be a pain in the ass for no reason. roflmao
