Funny that liberal Jews like Shmarya are not so keen on the death penalty, yet a new "Christian" such as yourself is such an enthusiastic supporter of the death penalty. Have you read what Jesus had to say on the subject?
Gaylords, really? I haven't heard that term since grade school. As I recall none of us ever knew what it meant, either.
Copperhead, the Old Testament gives the death penalty for murder.Friar I'm pretty sure we know what the term gaylord means. XD
Lord of the gays? How can there be more than one, then?
SGay, you are extremely adept when it comes to evasions. I am aware of the "Old" Testament death penalty (he who murders shall be murdered, yadda yadda...), and I think it is obvious that I was aware of that fact. Hence my noting the irony that "liberal JEWS like Shmarya are not so keen on the death penalty" [Jews having only the "Old" Testament and Talmud].I ask you what JESUS thought about the death penalty. Hint: the character of Jesus appears in the "New" Testamaent. You can start with Matthew 5:38-42.For a supposed "Christian" you sure are ignorant about your alleged new religion.P.S. Regarding your reminder that I am not Stephen Colbert, I think that statement is rather moot considering that I was not attempting to be satirical. I was dead serious! Unfortunately, my humility does not enable me to take any sort of offense, as I am not under the delusion that I am as great as or greater than Stephen Colbert.
P.P.S. Friar Yid, I agree. There can be only one. I nominate SJ for Lord of the Gays. XD
Copperhead, I refer you to this- http://www.theologyonline.com/DEATH.HTML
There used to be a comic called Brun Hilda and once of the characters was called Gaylord.I'm just saying...
If I were lord of the gays, they'd all be straight. XD
SJ, once again, you attempt an evasion, but at least this time, you try to address the point (by linking to the arguments of a different author). However, I would prefer to hear *YOUR* arguments, not those of some Christian Apologetics website. As any honest observer can discern, Christian apologists are fucking liars. "Christian apologetics" basically means lying for Jesus.I notice that all of the points on which Christians oppose the death penalty are based on direct quotations from the "New" Testament, whereas every single one of the hillbilly pastor's arguments for the death penalty were prefaced on "Old" Testament quotes. When he attempted to find support for the death penalty in the "New" Testament he deliberately lifted the quotes out of context. The quotes where Jesus *SEEMS* to advocate the death penalty, his intentions are merely to point out the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. Jesus condemned the Pharisees for their legalism and for claiming to be such perfect scholars of the Mosaic law when they were not being entirely faithful to it. (If you interpret that passage as favoring the death penalty, then you are accusing Jesus of contradicting himself in the Sermon of the Mount and elsewhere in the Gospels.)As for Paul's statement, he is clearly talking about the secular law (Render unto Caesar...). He never suggests that Christians should necessarily be pro-death penalty, only that they should not oppose any Earthly authority (even if they are). Those passages in Revelation clearly refer to God's wrath, not man's.Next time, try reading and studying on your own, rather than resorting to C[h]R[istian] AP[ologetics] websites.
P.S. I caught that Freudian slip on your part! If you were lord of the gays, they probably would all go straight... Because you would permanently turn them off of homosexuality and you'd have to retreat back into the closet!
>> As any honest observer can discern, Christian apologists are fucking liars. "Christian apologetics" basically means lying for Jesus.Veeeeeery bigoted view towards the largest religion in the world.>> The quotes where Jesus *SEEMS* to advocate the death penalty .... he does advocate the death penalty. Cut the doing gymnastics with the definitions.
