I have a deal for Shmarya

If Shmarya makes a thread on his blog that Jesus stopped being a Jew when he founded Christianity, then I'll take the word jew off of my masthead.

Could it be that being intellectually consistent would be too inflammatory so Shmarya takes the easy way out calling Jesus' jewish followers no longer jews but not Jesus himself?

1) Shmarya has thousands of followers. He doesn't care about you no matter how much you scream about him.
2) JC was a Jew until he died. His initial followers were observant Jews who mistakenly thought he was Moshiach.
3) Today's Chrisians come from the religion Paul created by putting JC's name into a collection of pagan remembrances and a token interest in the Bible. They were never Jews.

- Yes will I mean this post metaphorically for people who think like Shmarya.

- So are you suggesting that jews who believe in Jesus but still keep halacha the way orthodox jews do are still jewish?

-Christians with nonjewish ancestry is NOT the issue of the thread.

Calling NT pagan is extremist. The Old Testament is not 100% monotheist the way Orthodox Jews envision i.e. sacrificing to Azazel in Leviticus and Isaiah saying a son is going to be called God.

Listen, both of you are missing an important point - a Jew remains a Jew no matter what. SJ is still a Jew despite his recent foray into Chrisianity. He is not a Jew in good standing. I doubt there's a legitimate shul out there that'll give him an aliyah or a bar mitzvah. If there was a place where Jewish courts had actual power, he'd be ineligible as a witness or to serve as a judge. And if he ritually slaughtered an animal some might consider it automatically unkosher even if he did everything al pi halacha but he's still a Jew.
Same thing with Marx and JC. For lack of a better expression, they're "bad Jews" but still Jews.

and lubabs?

Ah I see so Shmarya going so far as to tell me I'm no longer Jewish was basically him having a shit attitude.

Ksil, it's the same thing with Lubab's. They're still Jews even though some of them have what are considered heretical beliefs by maintstream Orthodoxy.
And it comes with the same consequences. There are lots of frummies who won't eat Lubavitch-shechted meat unless they know the shochet in question isn't a meshichist. Or allow their kids to attend schools run by such. Or use their mikvehs.

I'm new to this blog. Why is jew not capitalized, but Jesus is?
