Well, those would have been laws. I am guessing that they weren't too far off from what Moses brought about...he just did it in a very dramatic fashion.
I mean, were they not the chosen people even back then? So they had to have your God's law before going into Egypt?
It's not a matter of the Israelites being disobedient to God, it's a matter of God himself deciding when he's going to give the laws to the the Israelites.
One can't be disobedient to a law that was not given yet.

Or Joseph Smith :p
But really: your people didn't have laws before Moses? There had to be something in place to govern them.
pre-slavery in Egypt, I guess there was like a tribal structure in place.

Well, Abraham, Issac, Jacob, and Joseph for that matter did have special connections with God.
So wouldn't they have been the bringers of change?
I would think the original bringer of change is the guy (or gal) that said "Meh, no more mulitple Gods...let's just have one!"
After all, it happened in Egypt once and that guy did bring about radical change, albeit it was short lived.
Aside from the obvious don'ts, the law wasn't in force until God issued it on Mount Sinai.
They went that long without God enforcing his own laws on his chosen people? And then suddenly he decides to "lay down the law".
That whole thing about sending his people into Egypt really rattled him, I guess.
There was nothing to enforce. God didn't make the laws until Mount Sinai.
But why?
The Israelites as a people had to accept them.
Before Egypt they didn't accept the laws of their own God? Or did they not all accept him as their God?
